Are waterproof backpacks really waterproof? If yes, I definitely buy a waterproof backpack. But if not, why should I pay for such a bag if a water-resistant backpack will be okay for me. Before we get the conclusion let's talk about the waterproof backpack.
What is waterproof backpack?
A waterproof backpack is constructed by the waterproof fabric like vinyl or nylon. All the seams are welded by high frequency so the bag is airtight and waterproof. The most frequent used fabric for backpack is nylon, which either coated by PVC or TPU. Backpack with PVC coating is much cheaper and the TPU coated is more expensive. However, the TPU has more flexibility and durability. More and more TPU coated backpacks are chosen by people. Thus, we can get the conclusion that a waterproof backpack is 100 percent waterproof even it is submerged. However, the water-resistant backpack is not so waterproof since they can only keep the rain and other precipitation out of the bag but would not be able to stop water coming in.
A waterproof backpack must be heavier and fewer features compared with the normal nice backpacks, so if it is worth to have a waterproof backpack?
